Welcome Primary 4/2

Welcome to a new school year in Primary 4!

I am thrilled to be starting this learning journey together and I can’t wait to share all the wonderful topics, skills and activities we will be exploring throughout the year!

As we are still waiting on the return of all digital consent forms, pupils’ faces have been covered in this post for privacy reasons.

Our P4s have made a fantastic start to the year and have already been working hard to brighten up their classroom with their art and work. Here’s a little preview until our first open afternoon on Tuesday 16th September.

Setting Targets!

The children made targets to work toward within their literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, which are now proudly displayed in class.

Literacy! Book Tasting and Grammar Enthusiasts

In literacy, Primary 4 have been hard at work developing their grammar and reading skills. So far, they have been focusing on proper nouns, pronouns, and adjectives, making sure to set out their work neatly and carefully in their jotters.

Alongside grammar, the class took part in our exciting book tasting reading café. The children ‘stamped’ five different books, wrote a short review of each, and then chose a favourite to keep in their tray for quiet reading time. It was a brilliant way to explore new titles, front covers, genres and spark enthusiasm for reading! Fantastic work P4!

STEM Spotlight: Spaghetti and Marshmallow Towers

Primary 4 took on an exciting STEM challenge – designing and building towers using only spaghetti and marshmallows! Working in groups, the children experimented with different shapes and structures to create towers that were not only the tallest but also the strongest. This encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and plenty of creative thinking. Pupils shared ideas and tested out strategies together. It was fantastic to see them preserve when towers wobbled or collapsed and celebrate when their designs stood tall and sturdy!

IDL: Investigating the Human Body

We have started our first Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) topic of the year: The Human Body. The children amazed me with the knowledge they already had and contributed lots of fantastic ideas to our class discussions. Together, the class came up with ideas and questions they would like to explore, giving them ownership of the direction of their learning.

To bring our topic to life, the class also had fun piecing together the bones of the skeleton-testing their memory from class discussion. Children had fun creating their very own skeleton artwork using black paper, colourful straws and googly eyes. The results were both creative and eye-catching. It was lovely to see how each piece of work was unique.

It’s been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and curiosity from the class already. We are excited to continue exploring the human body and discovering even more together!

Numeracy: Exploring Expressions and number patterns

In Numeracy, Primary 4 have begun their new topics on expressions and equations as well as number processes. The children have been working very hard, listening carefully during teacher input, and applying their learning with focus and enthusiasm.

So far, the children have been investigating number patterns and sequences, exploring place value, and comparing numbers to decide which are greater than, less than and equal to each other. It’s been great to see how quickly they are developing confidence with these concepts!

Heartstart Heros!

Children have been working carefully to perfect their recovery position and choking first aid through their Heartstart training. Discussing the risk and safety factors surrounding these.

It has been fantastic to see the children grow close to one another and grow independently as learners! Keep it up P4!

Outdoor Classroom Day

Outdoor Classroom Day – May 8th 2025

We had a brilliant day being outdoors for nearly the whole day!

We loved working in teams to make dens and then we created an amazing bubble mixture and tried to blow BIG bubbles!

We made our own bug hotels to provide shelter, comfort and a safe place for a variety of insects.  We made sure to use recycled materials to make them ECO friendly.

We learned where the best place would be to put our bug hotel to ensure to attract a variety of animals.

In the afternoon we used the muddy mover area to learn how to work as a team to build an assault course using the skills of balancing to travel across a range of equipment. We learned  to take risks and assess dangers.

We also planted sunflowers.

Monster Acrostic Poetry Competition 👹

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE SOME OF OUR POEMS PUBLISHED!

We entered a competition which was organised by Young Writers. We had to create a monster and then write an acrostic poem about it.  Our poems were fantastic so they were all entered into the competition.  We received an email which said …

We’ve got some fantastic news for you, we’d love to publish your pupils in “Monster Acrostics – Fangtastic Poems”! We’ve posted a package out to you today, which contains awesome bookmarks & certificates to be handed out to your pupils, letters for parents and a letter for you that explains everything, including the next steps. We can’t wait to publish your pupils and I hope they’re excited to receive the news!

AMAZING! Great work p3/2! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Big Walk and Wheel 🚲🛴

Big Walk and Wheel 2025

Today we had fun in the playground on our bikes and scooters. We took part in activities organised by the Junior Road Safety team. We enjoyed trying the slow race, slalom and the obstacle course.  We have made posters in class to try to encourage people to switch off their engines and travel to school in a healthier way.

Firefighter Visit March ’25 🚒

Today we had a special treat when the firefighters from Barrhead Fire Station came to visit us at school.

We got to sit in the cab of the fire engine, learn about lots of life saving equipment and best of all, spray some water!

Thank you to the firefighting team for a fun session 🚒

RSPB Fundraiser 🐓🐤🦆🦢🦅

RSPB Fundraiser 2025

WOW! What a brilliant day we had!

You all worked so hard to raise money for the charity which has helped us learn so much about birds and protecting nature.

You are all  superstars! ⭐️

We raised £160 which is a massive total and all the money has been sent to Mike at the RSPB.  He is very impressed with  our achievements.

World Book Day 📚

World Book Day 2025

We listened to a story called Handa’s Surprise.

We then tried all the fruit from Handa’s basket.

The pineapple was our favourite but most of us disliked the avocado!

We also visited the travelling Book Fair and made some very lengthy wish lists!  I hope your book dreams come true P3/2! 😉
